Top Most Common Microsoft Edge Not Working or problems and how to fix themĮven though it’s been around for a few years, Microsoft Edge is still the new kid on the block, especially considering its recent Chromium remodel, meaning there are bugs to squash, unfamiliar controls to learn, and problems to troubleshoot. It’s designed to replace Microsoft’s older browser completely (yay!) but confronts users with an all-new interface in the process (not yay!). There were features added to Windows 10, that just didn't jive well with my older (outdated) bios.Microsoft returned to its roots with Windows 10, and with it added the successor to its now-defunct Internet Explorer browser: Microsoft Edge. I did also have an issue where I had to update my motherboard bios to resolve issues that sound like what you are dealing with. However, if a 'reset' instead of a cold boot works, then you might be looking at the same, or a similar issue. ”Under “Shutdown settings” make sure “Turn on fast startup” is enabled.Īgain, I'm not sure if those options will help as it sounds like you are unable to boot even after a reboot. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable.Ĥ. Click “Choose what the power buttons do” on the left side of the window.ģ. In my case though, just a reboot would actually boot fine, because Windows 10 only uses 'fast startup' on a cold boot. I had to go into the power options and disable 'fast startup'. This started for me when I upgraded to 1809 before they pulled the train wreck. I'm not sure what build of Windows 10 you are on.
Skype freezes computer and wont respond driver#
We've had this happen on multiple Dell models and even an iMac running Windows 10 in Bootcamp so the odds that this is a driver issue or a bios issue is pretty low.Īny insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Some of them get rebuilt and the problem never comes back again but others get rebuilt and continue to have the issue. We've seen this issue on about 5 systems. We've tried using system restore to undo the last updates that were installed on the computer but that doesn't work either.

We've backed up the computer and rebuilt the system from scratch and reinstalled everything and a couple of days later this issue will come back. If we reboot the system we may eventually get the ability to logon but more often that not it just goes back to a frozen lock screen. We just get a blank screen with no option to logon. Disabling the lock screen doesn't seem to help. This seems to indicate that the operating systems is running but that the lock screen itself has frozen and won't allow us to get to the logon prompt.
Skype freezes computer and wont respond software#
The software is setup to run after a restart and we can use this remote access software to see the screen but all we see is a hung lock screen and we can't do anything with the computer. We've also run some remote access software on the computer in safe mode with networking and restarted the computer. I can even see the events that show me pushing the power button on the computer to shut it down even though the system never actually shuts down. When I look at the event logs for the timeframe of my previous failed logon attempt I can see events that happen after the time when the lock screen freezes. I can forcibly restart the system and get into safe mode and logon. If I push the power button, the computer does not shutdown though it is setup to do so. The time does not advance and the computer will not respond to any keyboard or mouse inputs. We've been experiencing and issue where Windows 10 boots up and shows the lock screen but then the lock screen freezes.
